What Jesus Does!

Today my friend called me to share how her son cheated on his wife. The results of his indiscretion have given his wife a sexually transmitted disease. As I listened in horror, I began to pray for that family. My thinking shifted to my High Priest, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:15-16), that God’s grace and mercy may envelop this family as my friend continued her tirade of expletives about her sons’ grotesque conduct. Yes, his actions are awful, but should he be characteristically judged?

Jesus said,

Judge not, that ye be not judged!

Matthew 7:1

How Jesus Views Man’s Indiscretions

How would Jesus see her son? Jesus said, “I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Mark 2:17). All too often, we see sin as a character flaw when it could be described as a sickness. No, I’m not saying a man cheating on his wife and polluting her body is a sickness to give a sense of approval to awful behavior. More to the point of this situation, Jesus said, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her (John 8:7).”

Jesus said,

How you measure others is the same measurement you shall receive!

Matthew 7:2

As my friend was ranting about this injustice that happened to her daughter-in-law and granddaughters, I quietly listened and prayed. I interject once only to relieve myself of hearing her strong language. I’m sure he doesn’t understand the depth of this incident. I thought this was much deeper than the son cheating and the condition he gave his wife. My friend and I got off the phone, and I continued to pray for this young man and his family.

What Would Jesus Do?

WWJD became a famous slogan in the 1990’s it was used with a small revelation of who Jesus is! Jesus didn’t judge. But we quickly gauge a person’s moral strength based on their sin. When Jesus said, “I came for sinners.” Jesus loves us despite ourselves; He died for us when we were in our sins (Romans 5:6).

This Man: Jesus came for those who were against Him and Father God that sent Him (John 3:16).

Think about that for a moment!

Jesus Restores!

So, what would Jesus do? For the man that falls into a pit. Because that’s what sin is! It keeps you longer than you want, takes you beyond where you thought you would go, and cost you more than you want to pay! Jesus told the Pharisees about restoring a sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath. Now the Sabbath was the law; remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Never mind Jesus told the Pharisees, “For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8).”

Jesus Came to Heal!

Healing the sick is what Jesus does! It’s not easy to forgo dwelling on the consequences of sin, especially in the above case, but as awful as it is, God is bigger! He can heal the marriage and their bodies to be better than before. Remember, I am speaking about the One who healed a woman with an issue of blood; this woman bled for 12 years, and no physician could help her, and she had spent all she had, so she was sick and financially destitute (Luke 8:43-48 and Mark 5:25-34).

Love is a Modifying Quality!

If this couple were in the hospital, we would pray for them, not judge them; they are! They need to hear how much God loves them and sends His grace, Jesus Christ, to heal their hearts. Sure, this may sound a little ridiculous. A man cheats on his wife and infects her in the process; all he needs to know is Jesus and that God loves him! Yes, love is a modifying quality.

Love Transforms!

For example, a child knows they are loved by their Father, his gestures of disappointment will cause the child to change their behavior, and we as adults are no different when the child of God lives his life in the consciousness that God loves us! There is absolutely nothing you can ask God for that’s more than He has already given to you! Lust and sin lose their ascendancy.

God so loved that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

What do You Want? Ask God!

Want a better sex life with your spouse? Ask God; He told David, “I gave you your master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I would have given you much more (2 Samuel 12:8). For the complete details of this story, read 2 Samuel 11-12; David took the wife of one of his men, then had the man killed when he couldn’t get the man to cover his crime.
