What Are You Looking At?

You will become!

This morning, I woke feeling slightly discouraged, not for any visible reason that I could tell. But in these moments, I give the Lord first place for changing my thinking, and almost immediately, I remembered a story about Jacob in Genesis 30: 27-43. I thought, why? I wasn’t cast down for missing God, at least not this time!

Jacob Negotiates, Knowing God blesses him!

In the story, Jacob’s uncle Laban changed his wages several times. In verse 29, where Jacob negotiates his wages, he points out how he has served him (his uncle) and has experienced an increase the Lord has blessed him by his coming. Then Jacob asks when shall I provide for my house? Laban then asks, what shall I give you?

The Wages of Deception!

What was happening here? An uncle had conned his nephew several times by adjusting his wages and then tricking him into marrying his oldest daughter when he wanted the younger one. If I were Jacob, I don’t know if I would have been able to discuss anything with my uncle without losing it! He got a wife He didn’t ask for, and his wages changed several times! But remember, Jacob deceived his father before he became a victim of his uncle’s shenanigans (Genesis 27:29-27). This story bears the consequences of lying and cheating; there is always a more significant cheat than the cheater!

Put The Lord in All Your Plans!

Laban also didn’t know Jacob was a cheat, but the fantastic part about this story is that the Lord still blessed them both! So much that Laban could see that Jacob’s presence increased his livestock, Genesis 30:29. Laban agrees with Jacob’s wage terms; they separated the speckled, spotted, brown, and any animal with white in it. He was removing those animals and taking them on a three-day journey. It appeared once again Laban was in a winning position. BUT GOD!

Watch Your Heavenly Father Work!

Who gave Jacob the idea to make these terms, and how would they be fulfilled? Who gave Jacob the wisdom to take rods of green poplar and the almond and chestnut trees, peel them to expose the white, and then place them in the gutters of the watering troughs? And what was this supposed to do? For an onlooker, this had to look crazy. I believe the bible, and I know the outcome of this story, but did Jacob? Or was he listening to the creator of heaven and earth? I venture to say the Lord was his guidance!

God’s Voice is in His Creation!

The animals that conceived looking at the rods gave birth to what they were gazing upon. Was it instinct or God’s voice that caused them to give birth to the spotted, speckled, and striped off-springs (Psalm 29:9). As I meditated on Genesis 30: 27-43, I am brought back to all things consist in Him (Colossians 1:17), consist is a term which is synonymous with existence suffice to say nothing is without God.

Beloved,

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. God’s voice is in His Word, and His Word became flesh and dwelled among us. Bless the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, who was and is to come (John 1:1). Father God is calling you to worship His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, and invite Him into your heart today!

Pray:

Lord Jesus, come into my heart; I repent of doing things my way. Come into my heart and be The Lord of my life today.

Amen

Jesus Loves You!
