The Presence of The Lord
In the Old Testament, there was a man God said, “I have found a man after My own heart, who will do all My will,” David, the son of Jesse (Acts 13:22). You can’t read the Book of Psalm and not think about this man after God’s heart. David always described the Lord in the present tense. When David spoke in Psalm 23, he always expressed the Lord in the present.
The Lord is Now
The Lord is my shepherd. Too often in my life, I didn’t feel I had a shepherd, but the scriptures remind me to walk by faith and not by sight (2Corinthians 5:7). In Psalm 23 is a picture of our shepherd King Jesus. He leads beside still waters and in paths of righteousness. The first three verses of Psalm 23 speak of a presence that, when fully received, rest is the reality.
Let Jesus’ Presence Renew You
Jesus is your shepherd and is a place of rest with the Lord. In Jesus, we exist. Beloved in Him, we are present at the Father’s right hand, and everything under His feet is under our feet as His sheep (See Ephesians 1:20, 22). Imagine with me for a moment, if we, beloved, live life in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, how would we look? How would we treat others? How would we handle life situations? Let’s be like David and go to the heavenly Father!
See Jesus with Your Heart
As I meditated on embracing God’s presence, I realized I have been at times in my life, like the sister of Lazarus, Martha, when she said, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died,” putting Jesus in the past. She also said, “I know that my brother will rise again in the resurrection at the last day,” putting Jesus in the future. Sure, Martha had some sense of knowing who He was and what He could do, but her faith was unstable. She had seen that whatever He would ask of God, God would give Him (See John 11:21-24). Although Martha physically beheld Jesus with her eyes, she didn’t see Him with her heart.
Faith is Now!
Hebrews 11:1
God Isn’t Asking for Perfection, but Willingness to Make His Word First
With the heart, man believes unto righteousness, and confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10). The mouth says what’s in the heart, and David spoke of the Lord as He is my light, redemption, and the strength of my life (Psalm 27:1). No, David wasn’t perfect (1 Kings 15:5) but did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and did as He commanded him all the days of his life. So, the Lord isn’t looking for man to be perfect but to follow His word!
God’s Words Are Life
Give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in your heart (See Proverbs 4:20-12,23). Whatever I pay attention to by hearing and looking can and will take hold in my life and abide in my heart.
The Presence of The Lord is Jesus Christ
Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, He came from God and is going to God, said, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid, you believe in God believe also in Me. I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. I am the true vine, abide in Me, and I in you (See John 13:3, 14:1,6 and 15:1,4).” Notice the term comes; when you come to Jesus, you come to the Father.
Beloved, look at Jesus. He is your presence with the Father!
