The ABC’s Of Christianity
The term Christianity is first used in the Book of Acts 11:26 KJV. If you take the time to read chapter 11 of the Book of Acts, you see God speaking to Peter about ministering to the Gentiles. The Gentiles were commonly referred to as unclean by the Jews. But God tells Peter don’t call common what I have cleansed. Peters’ Holy Spirit encounter came with the revelation of God’s will for him to preach to the Jew as well as the Gentiles.
Fundamental of Christianity
Jesus said you have Already Been Cleansed because of the word He has spoken to you (John15:3 KJV.). This Jesus Christ spoke to the disciples, so Peter was told by Jesus, and later God visited him in a vision in Acts 11 to remind him of his assignment.
Just A Thought!
What I find interesting about Peter is God spoke to him three times, just as Jesus spoke to him three times in John 21. Pretty much about the same thing! Jesus said, feed my lambs and feed my sheep and then again feed my sheep. Jesus was speaking as the good shepherd. Now Jesus also said, my sheep, they know my voice (John 10:27 KJV.) He wasn’t just speaking of the Jews but also the Gentiles. God’s intentions are made more apparent in the vision He gave to Peter.
Peter’s Vision
In Peter’s vision, He observes a great sheet descending from heaven by four corners that came to him. (The four corners I am persuaded to believe it is speaking of the four corners of the earth, God is calling every man, woman, and child to hear and receive His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus came to save the world, John 3:16 KJV.). Peter observed and considered the four-footed animals of the earth, wild beast, creeping things, and birds of the air. Then he heard a voice from heaven say, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat.” Peter is a Jew, answered, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean, but the voice from heaven asked him again. Scripture says, now this was done three times (Acts 11:10 KJV.).
It would seem Peter would remember the words of Jesus by this time, but God reminds him, “What I have cleansed you must not call common (Acts 11:6-9 KJV.).” Peter awoke to men seeking him, and the Spirit told him to go with them. He goes with them, and the Holy Spirit fell upon the house, and he remembered the word of the Lord, “John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit (Act 11:16 KJV.).” Peter proclaims, “If God gave them (the Gentiles) the same gift as He gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could oppose God?” Hearing Peters’ words, they became silent and glorified God, saying, “God has granted the Gentiles repentance to life.”
What is thought-provoking about this situation is how God is patient with Peter. Peter wasn’t rebellious; he was subscribing to Jewish traditions. As informed as Peter was, he needed to be reminded. This was the second time he received divine instruction, and still, God moves through him.
The Disciples Are Called Christian
The disciples were called Christians when they spent a whole year teaching the church and many people in Antioch (Acts 11:26 KJV.). Since this is the first time the disciples are called Christians, paying close attention to what they did is significant—teaching the people about Christ Jesus.
God Remembers Your Sin No More
Jesus cleansed the one that believes in Him and that that consciousness is what Christianity is about! Father God sees the believer as righteous (2 Corinthian 5:17 KJV.). Not going to be but is already!
Child of God, you have Already Been Cleaned by the Father and the Son!
