Make Room for the Lord Jesus!
Stand still and see His Salvation!
Make room for God to speak to you daily by starting the day with a devotional reading highlighting His grace. As I was reading today’s devotion, the Holy Spirit began to talk to me about Gideon, but I was looking at the life of Moses in this reading.
Two Weak Men, But God’s Strength!
I thought, how do Moses and Gideon parallel? God raised Moses to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt, and Gideon, named Jerubbaal; God used him to win against the Midianites, an enemy of Israel. Gideon told the Lord, “How can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house (Judge 6:15).” Unlike Moses, which scripture describes as mighty in words and deeds, before his indiscretion of murder (Acts 7:22-32), Gideon is considered least to himself, and in Moses’ situation, his assignment from the Lord came after he killed a guard (Exodus 2:11-15).
“The Lord shall fight for you and shall hold your peace.”““The Lord shall fight for you and shall hold your peace.”
Exodus 14:14
Both Moses and Gideon are leaders the Lord raised with instructions. Gideon received on-the-job training from the Lord. He started with 22,000 men but was reduced to 300, and God gave Israel the victory not because they were large in number but because God instructed their leader at the same time to share their enemy’s dreams of defeat at the hand of the Lord and Gideon’s sword (Judges 7).
God Can Visit Your Enemies in Their Dreams!
“The Lord told Gideon to divide the three hundred into three companies. Then put a trumpet in every man’s hand with empty pitchers with torches inside. Gideon told his men,” Watch me and do what I do at the edge of their camp,” and say,” The sword of the Lord and Gideon!” The words the Lord gave the Midianites by a dream gave Israel victory!”The Lord told Gideon to divide the three hundred into three companies. Then put a trumpet in every man’s hand with empty pitchers with torches inside. Gideon told his men, “Watch me and do what I do at the edge of their camp,” and say, “The sword of the Lord and Gideon!” The words the Lord gave the Midianites by a dream gave Israel victory!
God Sent Plagues for the Enemies!
The Lord demonstrated again man’s fighting wasn’t necessary when He used Moses and Aaron, his brother, as a spokesperson for Moses to bring Israel out of Egypt. The Lord sent nine plagues, and still, Pharoah was set on keeping Israel as enslaved people, but the tenth plague brought freedom for Israel to leave and worship Him (Exodus 5-15).
The Lord’s Leadership of Your Life is the Goal!
Is the similarity between both Gideon and Moses Gods’ raised leaders? Regardless of their attributes, one a stutterer and the other the least in his father’s house, a man of low esteem, they made room for God’s direction. Is that the correlation? I believe so!
Beloved,
Give God first place and allow Him to direct your way.
Invite God’s hand of grace in your life every day!
