Jesus Christ Our Righteousness
The book of proverbs is numbered; I believe for God to impart wisdom to us daily. Today’s reading was Proverbs 10; this chapter highlights righteousness throughout. As I was reading, my thoughts kept going to Jesus, my Lord, and Savior. He is my righteousness. Not only is Jesus the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrew 12:2 KJV), but He is also the believers’ righteousness (2 Corinthians. 5:21).
The verses of Proverbs 10 speak of righteousness, not as a person but as a character. But all that is right is embodied in our lovely Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ!
Righteousness delivers from death.
Proverbs 10:2
Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).
The memory of the righteous is blessed
Proverbs 10:7
Read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to see the many faces of Jesus.
The mouth of the righteous is a well of life.
Proverbs 10:11
We still drink from the well of Jesus Christ. It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4)
The labor of the righteous leads to life.
Proverbs 10:16
Jesus prayed, “I have finished the work which You have given Me to do” (John 17:4)
The tongue of the righteous is choice silver
Proverbs 10:20
Jesus said, “For I have not spoken on My authority, but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, What I should speak.” (John 12:49)
The lips of the righteous feed many.
Proverbs 10:21
Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord: You know that I love.” Jesus said, “Feed My lambs.” A second time, He said to him again, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Tend My sheep.” He said a third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, “Do you love me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, you know all things; You know I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep” (John 21:15-17). Not only did Jesus prepare breakfast for the disciples in this story, but He commissioned a man that denied Him three times (Matt. 26:70-75). Jesus didn’t give up on the man that contested His association. He instead delegated him to feed His sheep. What a good God!
The desire of the righteous will be granted.
Proverbs 10:24
Jesus said, “I have manifested Your name to the men You have given Me out of the world,”
John 17:6.
The righteous have an everlasting foundation.
Proverbs 10:25
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation (Col. 1:15).
The hope of the righteous will be of gladness.
Proverbs 10:28
Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God also believe in Me. Many mansions are in my Father’s house; I would have told you if it were not so. I am going to prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive you to Myself: that where I am there, you may also be.” (John 14:1-4).
The righteous will never be removed.
Proverbs 10:30
Every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord, Phil. 2:10-11.
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable.
Proverbs 10:32
Jesus prayed, “I have declared to them Your name (Father) and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me be in them and I in them.” John 17:26.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ is a new creation, old things have passed away; behold, all things become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus
2 Corinthians 5:21
