Is Father God a Convenience or Companion?
Jesus Wants a Relationship with You!
Recently I received a phone call from a family member I hadn’t heard from in over a year; the phone call was a request for money! I thought it would be good to hear from you, but is my value to you measured in dollars and cents? Immediately my mind went to Father God. Do I treat Him like a convenience or companion? When I got off the phone, I began praying about giving them the money they requested.
The counsel of the Lord stands forever!
Psalm 33:11
See, to loan, or give money is not something to be done lightly! Whether or not a person will pay you back isn’t the point, but should you be giving money just because you have it to loan or give? Giving money doesn’t necessarily help the requester. As I was sharing my concerns with the Lord, I received a text from them asking for less money stating they received funds from someone else, followed by the words “I love you.” I had no peace with the thought of loaning or giving them money, and I thought you love me? Yet you haven’t responded to a text or answered the phone for me in over a year!
It is not in man who walks to direct his own step.
Jeremiah 10:23
At this point, I ask the Lord, “Have I treated you this way? If so, I repent.” To not hear from someone for over a year and then when you do hear from them, they are requesting finances seems somewhat rude, to say the least, but how many times have you or I treated our heavenly Father like a convenience? Maybe not for an entire year, but indeed not daily fellowship.
Remember the prodigal son!
Luke 15:11-18
As I pondered this situation, I remembered a story Jesus shared about a father and his two sons with the disciples. The younger son asked for his inheritance while the Father was still alive, which seems somewhat rude, but the Father gives his son the inheritance which would befall him. The young son leaves and spends all he is given.
Think About This for a Moment!
Let’s say the son spends all he has, and someone in that place gives him a loan or takes care of him. Would he have repented and returned home? Probably not! Continuing his waste lifestyle, It may seem you’re helping, but you don’t know! See, the only One that knows for sure is the Lord; his counsel is infallible, and His direction is always right! Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33); God’s righteousness is Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21).
In every situation, give Jesus a voice.
Allow Him to direct your steps.
He wants a relationship with you!
Not a position in your religious ideology!
