Go To God First!
He will Prosper You!
2 Chronicles 26:5
Seville, Spain Summer of 2022
Whatever your first response to a situation or circumstance is, it is your faith in action! I have been taught to put God first as a child of God, but have I trained my heart and mind to call Him first? Honestly, not always! As I thought about this truth, the Holy Spirit reminded me that as long as King Uzziah sought the Lord, God made him prosper (2 Chronicles 26:5).
King Uzziah Prospered as Long as He Sought the Lord!
King Uzziah was sixteen years old when he ascended the throne. This young King did what was right in the sight of the Lord, at least in the beginning! God gave him victory over the Philistines and Arabians. He received gifts from the Ammonites. King Uzziah loved the soil and had much livestock. God gave this king prosperity in farming and battle. He also gave him wisdom to make weapons of war, and his fame spread throughout Jerusalem. King Uzziah had favor and influence with the people. Suffice it to say, when the Lord sponsors you! You shall flourish in all your endeavors!
When King Uzziah Trespassed the House of God!
The appearance of success caused King Uzziah to become strong in his heart. However, this confidence came to his destruction. He transgressed against the Lord when he entered His temple to burn incense on the altar. Azariah, the priest, and eight other priests of the Lord said to the King, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed!”
Never stop Seeking the Lord!
What just happened? Uzziah was King, and Azariah was a priest! Does the King have greater authority than the Lord? No! In those days, the priest, which God chose from among the children of Israel that they may minister to Him as a priest, were Aaron and his sons (Exodus 28:1). All the people of Judah made Uzziah king instead of his father (2 Chronicles 26:1). This thing the King attempted to perform wasn’t his appointment or position. Obviously, Uzziah stops seeking the Lord!
The Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He chooses!
Daniel 4:31
When Uzziah became furious with the priest of the Lord while still in the act of trespassing the temple with the censer in his hand and fury in his heart, leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priest in the house of the Lord, beside the altar of the incense altar, the King became leprous, and the priest thrust him out. The King stopped seeking God, got struck by a disease, and died alone!
Never Stop Seeking Jesus!
After reading Second Chronicles 26, I thank God for my Lord Jesus Christ. He is my high priest, and as long as I seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, all I need will be added to me (Matthew 6:33). God’s righteousness is Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:30). As long as I seek Jesus, I will have all I need!
Don’t know Jesus? He is a prayer away!
Pray,
Lord Jesus, thank you for loving and dying for me on the cross. Your precious blood washes me clean of every sin. You are my Lord and Savior, now and forever. I believe that Father God raised You from the dead and that You are alive today at the right hand of God. Because of Your finished work, I am now a beloved child of God, and heaven is my home. Thank You for giving me eternal life and filling my heart with peace and joy!
Amen
