Called and Chosen By God!

Last week I talked about how God will make all things work together for good for those called Romans 8:28. I expanded on the idea of each person being called that is born into the earth. Jesus opens Matthew 22 with a parable about the kingdom of heaven, but when you take your time to read or listen to Matthew 22:1-14, a greater understanding will open to you.

The Kingdom of Heaven Wedding Feast Allegory!
The servants of the king that are sent out to invite the guest to the wedding feast are those who believe Jesus is the Son of God. The guest is the nation of Israel, the first to reject the Messiah. After the first invitation, the king sends out other servants to tell my guest I have a fine feast where I have killed my fatted cattle and oxen, come to the wedding.

He Was Despised, and We Did Not Esteem Him
But the invited attendees dismissed the invitation and went their own way. One to his farm and another to tend to his business, but the rest seized the servants, treated them cruel, and killed them. When the king heard of what took place with his servants, he sent an army to destroy these ungrateful guests and where they lived.

The Wedding Feast is Ready
Now the first guests showed themselves unworthy, so the king instructed his servants to go out and invite everyone, both good and bad. The wedding hall was filled. Now, in this next part, I’ve researched to understand wedding garments. Whether this was an actual form of apparel or a state of this person’s soul, scripture doesn’t elucidate, at least not in this parable. But Jesus did say in another parable, except your righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven, Matthew 5:20, the Scribes and Pharisees sat themselves to be keepers of the law but were hypocrites (Matthew 23).

The King Casts Out a Guest!
The good and bad were invited to the wedding feast, but the king isn’t binding the bad but the one who doesn’t have a wedding garment. Is this about the law or the iniquity in the man’s heart? In the Book of Revelation, Jesus speaks of keeping your garment, lest he walks naked, and they see his shame, for He is coming as a thief in the night and blessed is he who watches, Rev. 16:15. It appears a garment is a form of readiness.

Called and Chosen
Jesus closes the parable with these words, “For many are called, but few are chosen.” Every time I heard those words, it was not explained to me that I played a role in being chosen, but instead, I didn’t or may not fit the selected criteria of the chosen. Remember the wedding feast was for a guest than the king said invite everyone that will come.

All are Called; Few Choose Jesus!
Were you born? Yes, if you are reading this, then you are called. God has an assignment for you that you are designed to complete. You are fearfully, wonderfully made, and created excellently in the image of all Mighty God, Genesis 1:26.
Make the decision to fellowship with Jesus, and say “Yes” to the wedding feast. Say “Yes” to Jesus as Lord of your life. Say “Yes,” to His will and ways for your life
